PARANORMAL

The Story of Kennekuk “the Kickapoo Prophet”

In the winter of 2009 I was traveling with my husband. He is a truck driver hauling refrigerated loads all over America. One particular day we were in Illinois going South on Interstate 47. We passed little towns and cornfields. When we were in Mclean County just north of the 74 a full body apparition appeared to me.

Paranormal experiences are my normal. My husband convinced me to start documenting information regarding my experiences which is why I can now go back and do research. On the day of the apparition I wrote down on my trucker map where we were and what I seen.

He was an Indian, a Native American rising up from the earth in a harvested cornfield. He had power, charisma and certainly got my attention. He had a feather headpiece on but not like you see in the movies, it was smaller. He was wearing white, it looked like white buckskin with beaded designs in blue and red. He rose up and stood with his arms outreached up towards heaven and communicated to me.

He communicated that injustices have been done, these fields are drenched with the blood of his people. Their story must not be forgotten. Injustice had been done and when we forget them their suffering was in vain. He was passionate, concerned, wanting to be heard.

He appeared on the west side of Interstate 47 east of Bloomington Illinois. I now believe that it was Kennekuk also known as Kanakuk the Kickapoo Prophet who appeared to me. I am learning much in my research.

“Kennekuk applied himself to his studies, and, after he had learned the fundamentals of the white man’s religion from the priest, he brought his own version of what he had learned back to the Kickapoos. As the priest had predicted, Kennekuk was forgiven. Not only was he allowed to return to his tribe to marry, but he also became a leader among them.” …Gurdon S. Hubbard Danville, 1831

He had killed his uncle before the Catholic priest had taken him under his wing. It was written that after his Christian conversion 400 Kickapoo were baptized. His people are known as the Vermilion tribe.

The white settlers continually removed the Kickapoo off the land in Illinois and relocate them to reservations in Kansas and Missouri. Kennekuk had become a Christian and brought Christianity back to his people. He used passive peaceful resistance to avoid being removed off his land but eventually they were.

White settlers wanted the land that the peaceful Christian Kickapoo farmed. Then came the Black Hawk War which was the last time Kennekuk and his people lived on their land, that land where he appeared to me. It was a doctrine of his religion that his people should never leave that land.

Kennekuk was a peacemaker. This was a man unlike any other. A man who knew God, a man who knew peace, helped the white settlers and fit in with the new America. Of all the Native Americans he was the only one living in peace and harmony with the white settlers, but that was not enough. After the Black Hawk War the white settlers in western Illinois wanted all Indians gone. He lead his people peacefully to Kansas where their land has slowly been ceded.

To my knowledge his people were not killed, just forced to leave. But I am not convinced of this. I believe he was telling me that his people, the Kickapoo of Mclean county Illinois had suffered a massacre that the white settlers hid. No one would want the truth that a Christian Kickapoo tribe living peacefully had been attacked, but what else would make him leave? The Prophet Kennekuk had avoided relocation for decades.

History is contradictory in some areas concerning him, why and how he and his people were forced to leave. The County was named for John McLean, a pioneer lawyer, Territorial judge, first Representative in Congress from Illinois (1818), and United States Senator (1824–1825).

I am posting this blog without having the answer. Why did he appear? How was he forced off his land? Did someone order them attacked? I’m not going to stop until I know. Thus far all I get is the confession that they were forced off their land by the Military, no admission of killings.

Today his people manage a casino.

Well that was very interesting to read about. What an unusual experience you had. You just never know all the answers out there in our universe but it seems he was trying to get you to do exactly what you’re doing researching just what happened to this peaceful man and his people. You have the drive to find the answers that’s probably why he picked you, not everyone would even go that route..they would probably think they needed sleep and were seeing things…some people refuse to believe something they see with their own eyes!

Thank you for your kind comment. All my life I have hid my paranormal experiences, my husband has been instrumental in changing that. Who wants to open themselves up to criticism? It feels good to be open about it.

It must be scary at times I think I would be a little un-nerved by an experience like that. But I guess if it’s something you have lived with all your life then I guess it’s one more thing you have to get used to. Happy 50th birthday to you..I wish that’s what I was celebrating this year…mine will be 62!! I still feel 50 sometimes too…heck even 30…well sometimes!! LOL!

Thank you for the birthday wish, it’s not till the end of the month but I’m startin the celebration early lol. You don’t have an “elderly” attitude and I think that’s what really ages folks.

I grew up in a haunted house, a very haunted house. The adults lived with it thus so did I. I did not know it was “para”normal to hear footsteps up the staircase everyday even though no one was there. It wasn’t until I was around 10 that I learned that.

My girlfriend came over to my house after school, we were alone in the house. There were the noises and sounds as usual, footsteps, talking. She asked me who was home, I knew the sound of my family members and told her “no one is here.”She went to look.

When she FREAKED OUT I realized that it was not normal to live with noisy unseen beings. Everyone could hear them but not see them. I still remember the sounds very clearly. It did not end well in that house.

The gift of being an empath has always been “normal.” So normal that when things did happen like being touched, feeling them, or seeing them it is natural. I’ve never been open about it before.

Yeah I can understand why it might un-nerve someone especially a child. It certainly sounds like you’ve had some good and bad experiences in your life…I am very open to most anything anymore as there are too many unanswered questions in this world, it’s good to hear about all of your experiences…there has to be something to the paranormal as too many people have them to just brush them aside.
I’m back on the truck w/hubby and dogs, haven’t left the west coast yet…we’re headed up to Grandview,WA now hope we don’t run into too much weather on the way. Are you going to ever get back on the truck again..I know it must be hard dealing with lupus especially in a truck…hope you get to doing better soon, it sounds like you’re having a bad time right now.

Hope you have a good and safe trip out. It’s a good time to stay on the west coast, I’m afraid Dave is going to wake up to snow in the morning. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to go anytime soon. I need to be a little more stable. Still have tests and doctor appointments, still numb. That truck is too dirty for me, it should be replaced soon. Maybe when he gets assigned a new truck I’ll help break it in. It is so gross everything would have to be pulled out to be cleaned.

May God watch over you & keep you safe out there
